On
Saturday, March 20th, a group of 18 car club members from Powell River,
led by Dan Robinson, caught the first ferry to Comox. At
about
12:30 p.m. they met up with the Victoria Chapter members, led by Paul
Taylor, at the Chequered Flag restaurant in Langford.
After
lunch, they took a 45-minute scenic route on their way
to East Sooke and a stop at Dave Blissett's garage.
|
They
left there and about 15 minutes later were enjoying the sights at Ted
and Sharon Forbes' home and garage. They arrived at the Comfort
Inn in View Royal, just in time to get settled and then it was off to
the Royal Palace restaurant for a Chinese dinner.

On
Sunday, March 21st, after breakfast, everyone checked out and left at
9:30 a.m. for another scenic drive ~ along the Gorge Waterway, through
Esquimalt, over the Blue Bridge, past The Empress Hotel and
the Parliament Buildings, along the Dallas Road waterfront to
Oak
Bay. The next stop was Pete and Terry Seward's home and
garage.
Leaving
Oak Bay, the tour climbed up to the top of Mount Tolmie, for
spectacular views of the Greater Victoria area. Down the
other
side and through Gordon Head to Gordie and Jane Thomas' home and garage.
|
The
tour carried on through Gordon Head to Royal Oak and to the next stop ~
Royal Oak Burial Park and a visit to the Mausoleum there. It
was
only a short drive to the lunch stop, Romeo's Place Restaurant
in
Broadmead Shopping Centre.
Unfortunately,
rainy weather appeared for a short time on Sunday morning, but brighter
skies returned by the afternoon, in time for the return journey.

After
a very pleasant two days of touring, the Powell River guests took their
leave and made their way back up-Island. A number of Victoria
Chapter
members participated in some or all parts of this weekend and enjoyed
the opportunity to get to know fellow old-car enthusiasts.
Thanks
to Dave Blissett, Ted & Sharon Forbes, Pete & Terry
Seward and
Gordie & Jane Thomas ~ for sharing their homes and
garages and for
their hospitality. Also, thanks to Dan Robinson and Paul Taylor for
organizing a most interesting Spring Tour.
