As is often the case for our May Sunday Run, it was held on the holiday weekend -- but the warm, sunny weather helped ensure that a good number of members participated.

There were 17 vintage cars, 6 modern cars and 37 people on the run, including several convertibles with their tops down!!

Heinz Mueller's route featured a short, 30-minute drive, along West Burnside Road, Wilkinson Road, Santa Rosa, Santa Anita to Hastings Road.

This segment of the route is very pleasant with farms and woodlands.  Then we followed Granville Road back to West Burnside and on to the Island Highway.  We did a quick turn around by following Six Mile Road to Thetis Lake, and then back to the Island Highway.

This took us to our destination: View Royal Public Safety Building.

Heinz had arranged with Chief Paul Hurst to have a tour of this brand-new facility -- just opened less than two months ago.

We broke into three groups and three super volunteer crew members lead us through the facility-- showing us everything from the fitness room, to the kitchen, to the administration department, and of course, the fire trucks and other emergency vehicles and equipment.

Oh, and we did see the shiny, new Fire Pole too!!  Unfortunately, we did not get to see anyone demonstrate its purpose!!

Founded in 1944, the View Royal Fire Rescue has provided emergency services in View Royal for more than 70 years.  The old Fire Station was built in 1957, but it was determined that it lacked several amenities to make it functional as an emergency services building, as well as it lacked seismic stability.

This new building has been designed to serve as an administrative base and emergency operations centre, as well as house career fire fighters.

View Royal Fire Department as 6 full-time and 2 part-time staff, and a volunteer force of approximately 36 members.

After this most comprehensive tour, most participants carried on to the Four Mile Restaurant for food and beverages and fellowship.

Thanks to the great guys at the Fire Station for giving up their time on a Sunday afternoon to show us around their wonderful new facility.

And .... thanks to Heinz Mueller for putting together this delightful Sunday Run.
