St. Patrick's Day 2013 turned out to be a grand day for a car run -- sunny skies, with a brisk breeze!!
The coolness kept most convertible tops up, but there was one brave couple who drove the tour with their top down. There were 17 vintage cars and 23 members represented, with
a total of 37 people in attendance.
Participants
had been invited to "wear green" today in honour of St. Patrick's Day
and most folks embraced this -- some more than others!! Everyone
who was wearing green received a large green shamrock for their car
window and a lucky shamrock pencil as a remembrance.

Don
& Dolores' route took us from the Forestry Centre, along Burnside
Road, Interurban Road, Burnside Road to Jutland. The route
circled down around the Selkirk waterfront, coming out onto Bridge
Street. We followed Hillside, Turner, Bay (over the Bridge),
Tyee, Raynor and onto Skinner. Parts of Vic West are very pretty
at this time of year -- lots of pink blossoms on the trees on the
boulevards.
We returned to Saanich via the Gorge/Tillicum Bridge; moving along
Carey, Glanford, West Saanich and Old West Saanich. Then it was
up hill on Doyle to Forest Hill and the ridge overlooking Cordova
Bay. We wended our way around Elk/Beaver Lake, and crossed the
Pat Bay Highway at Sayward Road. Then it was a quick jaunt over
to Cordova Bay Road and Lochside -- to find parking.

Our
destination was the home and garage of John King. We were treated
to a veritable feast of vintage cars -- the most interesting seemed to
be his 1952 Chev, which is currently under restoration. His
well-appointed shop enables him to do most of his own restoration work
-- which has earned him many awards.
He
also opened his basement museum for members to enjoy .... many
treasures from bygone days were on display. This type of
collection is always popular, as folks (of a certain age) can see many
items that were found in their own homes as they were growing up.

After
a good look around, most folks moved along to Bill Mattick's Restaurant
at the Cordova Bay Golf Course, for refreshments and fellowship.
Thanks
to Don & Dolores for organizing this special St. Patrick's Day Run.

And .... thanks to John King for his warm hospitality.
