The 15th Annual Ice Cream Run took place on a special day this year -- CANADA DAY!!

It was a gorgeous evening for a car run:  sunny and warm, little or no wind, lots of happy people everywhere celebrating Canada's birthday!!

We met at McCall Bros. Funeral Home parking lot.  There was a total of 45 people -- 17 vintage cars and 5 modern cars -- participated in this year's run.

Some folks in the neighbouring condos enjoyed the car show!!

The Taylors' route took participants up Johnson St., onto Cook Street -- then up and over the top of Smith Hill ** (aka Summit Ave./The Rise).  Back down to Quadra St. and out to Lakehill.  After wending our way through there, we meandered out into Broadmead, where we practiced our right turns (six in a row, one left turn and then three more rights -- as we circled through the beautiful homes and gardens there).

IceCream201406 The route left Broadmead and took us along Cordova Bay Road, through Mt. Doug Park; onto Ash Rd., Torquay, Barrie Rd. and Tyndall Ave., and finally to Ferndale Road.

Our destination was the home of Jane & Gordie Thomas.  They had the ice cream ready, along with many delicious toppings and sprinkles!!  Coffee, cookies and a special cake were available too.

Jane was dressed up for the occasion, sporting Canadian flags!!

Folks had brought their chairs, but blankets and warm jackets were not needed this night -- it was still warm and quite calm.  A wonderful ending to the 2014 Canada Day!!

A hearty thank-you to Jane & Gordie Thomas for offering their garden and home to host this special event.

Also thanks once again to Liz and Paul Taylor for organizing the car tour portion of this annual event.

If you are interested in reading about Smith Hill, the reservoir and the history of the Hill and the area, please see the link below -- a great little brochure put out by the Victoria Heritage Foundation.  The brochure is really a self-guided walking tour of the area, with some great historical information included.
