This special Sunday Run was organized by Heinz Mueller, with help from Paul Taylor.
Now that the roads are all paved, it was considered to be a suitable
route for vintage cars. And, because it would take much longer
than our normal Sunday Run, it became a day-long tour.
This prompted some folks to actually extend it to two days, with an overnight stop in Lake Cowichan.
|
There
was a good turnout for this event -- 17 vintage cars and 2 modern cars,
totalling 39 people. Fourteen people decided to make the stopover
in Lake Cowichan.
The day started with breakfast at 9:30 a.m. at Jasmine's Restaurant in
Colwood. The tour left at 10:30 a.m. and stopped for a short
comfort stop at French Beach at about 11:30 a.m. The sun was warm
and the fresh sea air was very pleasant.
Then it was off to Port Renfrew, passing through Jordan River.
Lunch had been arranged at the Port Renfrew Hotel, on their large
sundeck. The weather totally cooperated and everyone was able to
sit outside to eat and enjoy the excellent views of the harbour.

After
lunch, the drive took us away from the seashore and through the lovely
green forests of the Southern Island, all the way to Mesachie
Lake and Lake Cowichan. As the afternoon was warm, some
folks decided to cool off with a stop for ice cream in Lake Cowichan.
At this point the group who were going to stay overnight, headed to
their motel and Happy Hour. The rest carried on through to Duncan
and then south on Highway #1. A dinner stop had been planned for
Chinese food at Cobble Hill, but only 5 people stopped to eat.
|
After the
overnighters had refreshed themselves at the motel, they gathered at Jake's at the Lake Pub for dinner and more fellowship.
Breakfast had been arranged at the Shaker Mill Restaurant.
After breakfast, a short jaunt to the Kaatza Station Museum was planned. The group then split up and went various ways.
Three couples carried on to Chemainus -- for another sampling of ice cream!!
|

|
|
Finally everyone headed for home -- some by ferry and most by highway.
And, the last two couples decided not to bother with cooking at home
that evening and ended their mini-holiday at the My Chosen Café for an
early dinner.

Thanks to Heinz Mueller and Paul Taylor for
organizing this memorable scenic run
for us!!
