After
a very rainy Saturday the day before, the day of our 2nd Summer Pot
Luck Picnic dawned bright and clear. By the time we gathered
at the Pacific Foresty Centre, a few dark clouds were approaching, but
when we reached our destination, all was well.
With a slightly lower turnout than last year, organizers were still
pleased with 19
members and their families/guests (including 13 vintage vehicles taking
the run). |
The
route took participants along some familiar roads, including West
Burnside, Marigold, Interurban, Wilkinson, West Saanich and Old West
Saanich. The journey continued along Verling, Bryn and Sean ,
taking us to Oldfield. The run then lead us out the Peninsula to
Sidney and beyond -- all the way to Landsend Road and a lovely
scenic loop around Bryden Bay and Curteis Point. We then
headed back across Highway 17 to Chalet Road, Tatlow Road, West Saanich
again and to Dogwood Road and the beautiful home of our hosts, Jamie
and Sherrill Cox.

 |
As is often the case with pot
luck affairs, the variety of the offerings was outstanding -- cooked
ham and turkey provided by our hosts; salads (jellied, pasta, potato,
vegetable); beans; devilled eggs; rolls and butter; and so on.
And, if you had any room left, the dessert table was sure to fill
you up -- with a grand selection of sweets!
|
Everyone had set up their chairs
around the garden and took advantage of the relaxed setting to
catch up on news of summer activities. Guests were welcomed to
stroll around Jamie and Sherrill's extensive grounds, and marvel at
the wonderful array of flowers, trees, vegetables, berries and all
things green and growing.

After
everyone had had their fill of the good food, and the clean-up was
done; the members thanked Jamie and Sherrill once again for hosting
this delightful summer event.
Thanks also to Pete and Terry for
the enjoyable driving tour. And, of course, thanks to all of the
members for sharing their favourite dishes with us all.
