The
weather was terrific for today's run -- Victoria at its finest ......
warm, sunny and just a perfect, convertible, top-down kind of day!!
There were 17 vintage cars on the tour, along with 7 modern vehicles --
totalling 38 people .... including two guests from the VCCC Cowichan Valley Chapter.

Marc and Harvey's route was a wonderful scenic, country drive, starting
along Burnside Road West. We then meandered through farm lands
along Granville and Charlton.
Then we took off into the forest, on our way via Prospect Lake Road and Goward Road, to circle Prospect Lake.
As we drove along Interurban, one could imagine chugging around the gentle bends in the old BC Electric Railway.

The
route toured through the Garden Gate neighbourhood, bringing us out
onto Benvenuto. Leaving the suburban landscape behind, we drove
along Keating Cross Road and Oldfield Road.
Sadly, we were unable to see any remnants of the famous old
Butler Howroyd Airfield -- home of the Butler Fly-In of days gone by. It
appears to have been lost to the gravel pit and modern warehousing
development.

Turning
back towards Victoria along West Saanich Road, we found ourselves on
Markham Road, which is the back entrance to Camosun College, Interurban
Campus.
Our destination was the Automotive Training section, where Patrick
Jones welcomed us to his huge, well-equipped training facility.
Patrick invited folks to wander around and check out the equipment and to ask questions.
Marc had brought coffee, lemonade and donuts to refresh the participants.

These photos were taken in 1999, 2000 and 2001 at the Butler Howroyd Airfield.
The airfield closed in 2007 after the a plane crashed during landing.
