The "Rubber Eraser Day" Run was another "Taylor-made" run -- thrown together in just two days, after the original run plans fell through.
What is the connection between vintage cars and rubber erasers, you
ask? Well, actually there is no connection at all -- it just so
happens that April 15th is Rubber Eraser Day!
|
Also, as Paul Taylor explained at
the Drivers' Meeting: the original plan for today's run was a tour of
the Watershed -- that fell through and had to be ERASED!!
Then, the second plan which was a tour of Dockyard with the Early V8 group, also fell through and that one had to be ERASED too!!
So, to celebrate this very important invention, participants were given a bright pink eraser, along with their pink Run Sheets!
It is believed that Spring is finally here in Victoria and our April Sunday Run took place under sunny skies.

There were about 45 people participating in the run, representing 27
memberships. This included 19 vintage cars.
Paul's
route took us through View Royal, out to Metchosin and Langford,
back through Colwood. Along the way, we saw: swans and geese;
lots of sheep;
beautiful vistas of the Olympic Mountains across the Strait; many
clumps of bright daffodils blooming beside the road; an stunning
display of Easter lilies at St. Mary's Church near the corner of
Metchosin and Happy Valley Roads (photo on left); and on Lindholm
Road, there was an amazing row of trees completely pink with blossoms
(see photo above)
-- sort of reminded us of the original Pink Pearl Erasers!!
|
Also
on the route, the cars were challenged on Lombard Road -- a narrow,
single-lane road that is bordered, on both sides, by two magnificent
rows of Lombardy poplar trees! Due to the early season, these
statuesque trees were still looking rather bare -- but they are worth
visiting in the late summer or early fall.
At the end of the run, folks enjoyed refreshments at the Royal Roads Café.
